What are your unconscious procrastinator archetype's superpowers and limitations, and how can you manage them?
Note: All quizzes of this nature oversimplifies the complexity of human nature: no-one can neatly be put in a box. So results are NOT mutually exclusive (in fact most people will have several types). This quiz is meant to be entertaining and a starting point for your own exploration and understanding of the underlying mechanisms of procrastination. Feel free to explore other types and see what resonates with you.
Your superpower is planning. You’re brainy and value research and data, are skilled in problem-solving, and come off as grounded, and rational.
That means, you appeals to yours and other people’s prefrontal cortex — the most evolved part of our brains. So people/companies/teams will seek you out for your solutions and your work because you stand out as an authority — with the pragmatism and integrity to back it up.
But deep down (unconsciously but maybe not so deep down) you’re afraid someone WILL FIND YOU OUT... What if they realised you’re not as great as they thought you might be!!
🧠 How to get trACTION.
Good news!!! You've got the "action" part of traction down.
And you're already great at mobilising your conscious brain. 🥳
But when it comes to procrastination, emotions play a way bigger part than we think. Many studies show that our unconscious emotions make snap decisions for us, and we “rationalize” them after the fact with logic! (Like... when they tell you that you just need to add that one more thing).
So, to have more traction, you want to gain awareness of what triggers your emotions and rewire what emotions you get for specific triggers (like desensitising).
If you are a perfectionist, in my Anti-procrastination mini-course: Guide to leveraging both the conscious and the unconscious mind to regain trACTION, I teach you the exact and simple strategy I used to overcome my perfectionism — which is not just incredibly valuable at work, but also in life. That will make the "is this good enough?" question a no-brainer.
Your superpower is: you’re a rock.
You are the bestie everyone wishes they had!
You instinctively understand your people’s needs, challenges and emotions even when they are unspoken.
That means you are everywhere, helping everybody.
It is a rich life but also an exhausting one.
You find it difficult to relax without feeling guilty or ashamed.
🧠 How to get trACTION
Good news!!! You've got the "action" part of traction down. 🥳
You don't spare your time or energy. "You'll rest when you're dead".
That is fantastic and to keep doing this is a sustainable way - that allows you to enjoy life and take it where YOU want to - you need to be more strategic with where and when you spend it.
You need to loose your FOMO or FOD (Fear of disappointing), and develop JOMO (Joy of missing out) or JOP (Joy of prioritising).
These are the unconscious drivers of your procrastination.
You need to get better at making choice. You might NOT think so because you make decisions all the time!! But the thing is, decisions are typically based on facts and desired outcomes whereas choices are based on belief.
To go deeper, if you are an over-doer, in my Anti-procrastination mini-course: Guide to leveraging both the conscious and the unconscious mind to regain trACTION, I teach you
proven techniques to turn FOMO into JOMO (or FOD into JOP - yes I totally made those acronyms up 😆) so that prioritising becomes a no-brainer and "I don't have time" a thing of the past — ZERO pressure or complicated tactics needed!
Your superpower is you’re a humble and cautious. To the point that you think that everybody else knows better than you.
You have a knack for coming up with worst case scenario and asking questions, collecting the answers to the "what, who, where, how, when".
That means you are the most prepared when things go wrong. It is reassuring to you but also exhausting.
🧠 How to get traction
Good news!!! You've got the "stakes" part of traction down. 🥳
You don't minimise others' opinion, required efforts or expected benefits (or loss) which sometimes makes you be perceived as a pessimist.
What you do minimise is your own opinion and abilities. This is why you seek answers, reassurance, nurturance, and help from others. These are the unconscious drivers of your procrastination.
Maybe because a part of your unconscious mind has some hesitation, anxiety, or fear around change.
First, ask yourself: what do I fear might happen once the change happens? Is there something I fear losing? Does it challenge an old identity, or habits that gave me comfort?
Then, you want to directly address these. Remember that when every part of your unconscious mind feels safe and capable to do the thing (aka. when you have your own back), it will be so much easier for you to take action even without certainty.
If you are a worrier, in my Anti-procrastination mini-course: Guide to leveraging both the conscious and the unconscious mind to regain trACTION, I teach you what to focus on (instead of certainty) so that taking action becomes a no-brainer and I-don't-knows" become a thing of the past — ZERO pressure or complicated tactics needed!
Your superpower is you’re a a giver.
You instinctively focus on people and things that are important, setting the rest aside.
That means you are intentional but you feel like it's not enough.
You are mentally and physically exhausted.
Maybe pre- or post- burn out even?
You remember the days when you didn't have to set anything aside and long for them.
Right now, you just crave simplicity.
🧠 How to get traACTION
Good news!!! You've got the "stakes" part of trACTION down. 🥳
You know what you want or maybe rather what you don't want.
You just don't know how to get it. Because you don't have the energy for it.
It’s a vicious cycle, things feel hard/ complicated so it drains the little energy you have. You don’t have energy so things feel hard/complicated.
First and foremost, you need to break the cycle.
Instead of pushing yourself to do more.
You need to do less!!
You might NOT believe it because you already do much less than you use to. But the thing is, right now, the "little" you try to do still created "too big" emotions (and thus energy leaks).
And when it comes to our actions, emotions plays a way bigger part than we think.
So "backing off", doing less and simplifying (like you keep saying) is actually how you rebuild capacity (energy) and find momentum again.
If you are a No More Juice, in my Anti-procrastination mini-course: Guide to leveraging both the conscious and the unconscious mind to regain trACTION, I detail for you EXACTLY how I apply this deceptively simple strategy with my clients so that taking action becomes a no-brainer — ZERO energy (ok... near zero) or complicated tactics needed!
Don’t deny it — Your superpower is charisma — people either love you or hate you!
You’ve got that “je ne sais quoi” that people can’t quite put their fingers on… which probably has to do with your contagious passion and the way you honestly share your own experiences and show your vulnerability.
You have a knack identifying opportunities that others can’t yet see. You are innovative and bold.
🧠 How to get trACTION
Good news!!! You've got both the "action" and "stakes" part of trACTION down. 🥳
But despite that you struggle to take actions unless you are either PASSIONATE or UNDER PRESSURE... You need thrill (duh!)... or rather, your brain needs it.
So, to have more traction, first, you need to make that thrilling and pleasure seeking part of your brain CHILL OUT. Right now it's probably over-stimulated by social media, video games, Netflix, smoking, eating or whatever your "binging drug of choice is".
Second, you need to find another way (besides stress & binging) to create thrill & pleasure to active your "urgency" button.
If you are a thrill-seeker, my Anti-procrastination mini-course: Guide to leveraging both the conscious and the unconscious mind to regain trACTION will teach why your brain works this way, so you can decide if you want to love it or change it; AND two specific motivators that work for my clients — and which perfectionists and over-doers tend to use without realising it🤫. You’ve got lots going on for you already. Let me show you how to turn all that into action and change for your to be the superhero you dream to be!
Your superpowers: You dream big (from a dream adventure to re-thinking the world) & you have faith that things will work out.
You have a knack for vision and seeing opportunities that others can’t yet see which can be super inspiring for people to be around.
By the way, did you know that humans’ unconscious beliefs control the majority of our thoughts and decisions? And those beliefs are already programmed in large part by how we were brought up and socialized? As you could guess, this is pretty damn limiting for most people!
That’s why you catch people's attention. Because you help people to question the status quo, the old programming and introduce new exciting possibilities (like the idea that life could be easier, fairer, bigger) to their unconscious wiring. And also because... let's face it... you know how to have fun!!
🧠 How to get trACTION
You’re already great at creating vision. The issue is, how do you consistently go from inspiration to action (without taking the distraction road)?
First, with specificity. Thinking (or dreaming) broad and unspecific, keeps you excited (activates you dopamine system) and gives the impression to your brain that you're making progress.
But it's not feeding enough information to your pre-frontal cortex to plan and execute the actions required for progress.
Second, ask yourself: what do I fear might happen once I act on my dreams? Is there something I fear losing? Does it challenge an old identity that gave them comfort?
You might need to address that and update your old programming about yourself (ah the irony...), so that your unconscious mind feels safe and capable to do the thing.
Imagine if you could make your dreams happen rather than just talk about them!? If you could run towards them rather than away.
If you are a Dreamer, Anti-procrastination mini-course: Guide to leveraging both the conscious and the unconscious mind to regain trACTION will teach 3 ways to get more specific and how to be the person that turns your vision into action.
